You received a letter saying that your child qualifies for reading... so what now?

Your child is screened at the beginning of the year using a universal screening tool called AIMSWEB. These are a series of quick measures administered to students that helps to identify those that are at risk for not performing well in reading . These scores are then compared against national norms to rate students based on their level of risk. Students that show up as being at medium or high risk are then further assessed using district benchmarks. The benchmarks may include a reading assessment, spelling inventory, sight word knowledge, letter id and sounds, phonemic awareness and fluency. Students qualify for reading services by not meeting two or more data points as outlined by the district.
